FRANGIPANE IN AIR PRUNING POT

Frangipani, or Plumeria, is a plant native to Central and South America, widespread especially in tropical regions. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach 7-8 meters in height in the wild. If grown in air pruning pots, it usually does not exceed 3-4 meters.

Frangipani is especially appreciated for its splendid inflorescences which can be of different colours, from white to yellow, from pink to red and purple. The leaves are long and narrow, of a beautiful deep green color, while the trunk and branches are often very gnarled.

The cultivation of frangipani requires a warm and humid climate, and does not tolerate frosts or too cold temperatures. Furthermore, it is important to guarantee it a well-drained and fairly fertile soil, enriched with organic fertilizer.

Frangipani can be grown both in traditional pots, air pruning pots and in the ground, as long as its environmental needs are respected. In general, it is advisable to place it in a sunny position sheltered from the wind, and to water it regularly without exceeding, avoiding wetting the leaves.

To encourage flowering, it is important to carry out training and cleaning pruning, eliminating dry or diseased branches and limiting the growth of the most vigorous parts.

Frangipani is a very charming and decorative plant, ideal for beautifying your garden or terrace. If you want to grow it, remember to respect its needs and give it the necessary care, and you will be rewarded by the beauty of its blooms.

Frangipani can be easily propagated by cuttings or layering. It is also possible to get new plants from seeding, although this method requires more time and attention.

Propagation by cuttings. It is advisable to take some twigs of about 20 cm from the mother plant, choosing those with well-developed buds and removing the basal leaves. The cuttings are then put to root in a light and moist substrate, preferably using a rooting hormone to favor the emission of the roots.

Propagation by layering. Incisions are made on the chosen branch, the area is wrapped with a moist and nutritious substrate such as peat. Keep the wrapped part covered with cling film. After a few months, roots should form, and the layering can be detached from the mother plant and transplanted as well.

For both propagation and cultivation in general, it is important to pay attention to any pests or diseases such as cochineal, powdery mildew or rust. In these cases, specific products for the control of insects or fungi can be used. Do not overdo the doses or use too aggressive products.

Finally, if you want to make your frangipani flower more abundantly, you can try to stimulate it with a specific fertilizer for flowering plants, to be administered in spring and summer. In this way, you will enjoy the beauty and scent of its splendid blooms for a long time.
