With the super roots<\/strong> air pruning pots of the Roothus<\/strong> line, transpiration is more effective and implies a healthier substrate which leads to more homogeneous germination<\/strong> on each shelf. The tap root <\/strong>of the recently sprouted plant<\/strong> is pruned at the base, encouraging branching of the lateral roots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Better oxygenation also means that healthy microbes produce more nutrients, which the plant’s<\/strong> healthy root system<\/strong> can take up immediately, promoting faster growth<\/strong>. In a standard seed or cutting tray, the growing <\/strong>tap root<\/strong> wriggles as it reaches the base of the container. At the same time, a lack of oxygen in the substrate<\/strong> means fewer healthy microbes to produce food for the plant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s take two thirty-day-old olive trees. One comes from a Roothus<\/strong> container, the other is grown<\/strong> in a conventional container. Roothus<\/strong> grown in super roots anti-spiraling pot<\/strong> has already undergone air pruning<\/strong> of its tap root<\/strong> and is growing <\/strong>with healthy lateral roots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tap root<\/strong> of the other struck the bottom of the pot<\/strong> and deformed into a J shape. Six months after sprouting, the Roothus<\/strong>–grown<\/strong> olive tree developed a mass of healthy, fibrous roots<\/strong>, while those of the other olive trees grown<\/strong> in a standard container are helically deformed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When washed, the diversity between the roots<\/strong> is very evident. The upper root system<\/strong> of the tree grown<\/strong> in Roothus <\/strong>has already produced more growth<\/strong>. The tree grown<\/strong> in air pruning pots Roothus<\/strong> has a 20% greater circumference and is 10% taller. The top growth<\/strong> is denser and there are fewer spaces between internodes. The extremely healthy root system<\/strong> of plants<\/strong> propagated in Roothus<\/strong> allows for rapid transplanting into much larger containers. For example, tree seedlings happily transition from the 0.5 or 1 liter propagation pot to 9 liter containers, and then to larger containers such as the 50 liter container.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One year after sprouting, the olive tree grown in Roothus super roots anti-spiralization pot<\/strong> was placed in a 25 liter Roothus<\/strong> container. After another nine months, we washed the roots <\/strong>again. The tree has had good growth<\/strong> and now has a dense mass of healthy, fibrous roots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
